About
Kiernan Mathews, Ed.D., is the Executive Director and Principal Investigator of the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE), a research-practice partnership based at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Kiernan has led COACHE's strategic planning, research, and development since 2008. Through the Collaborative, Kiernan provides counsel for senior administrators about the academic workplace and the effective use of data for institutional change. His writing and speaking engagements explore the condition of faculty at colleges and universities, particularly concerning leadership development, shared governance, faculty turnover, and the magnitude and effect of nonresponse in faculty surveys. In 2010 and in 2014, Kiernan received the Menges Award for Outstanding Research in Educational Development from the Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Network in Higher Education. He currently serves on the board of the Association for Collaborative Leadership. Prior to his work in the academy, Kiernan launched new technology projects at Routledge, Inc. and The LEGO Company. He holds a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s from Harvard, and a bachelor of arts from the University of Houston.
